I've been running for over a year, ran several races and currently training for half marathon. I ran usually run in Brooks Ghost 10 and Brooks Launch 5 using inserts but always ended up with aching knees after racing. Its been major trial and error trying to find shoes that work right with my feet. I have high arches and tend to under pronate, and having the wrong shoes likely had a part in fibula stress fracture injury I got a few months ago. Recently, I've been getting pain in the ball of my foot when running which was really bumming me out. I figured there had to be a shoe out there that didn't have the drop in the front that all other running shoes have and more overall cushioning for my feet. This led me to Altra Torin 3.0.Someone once told me that the ugliest shoes are usually the best. These shoes are not all bells and whistles like Nike or any of the bigger brands but I tell you they are the most comfortable shoes I've run in. Out of the box I ran 6.5 miles and felt like I could keep going! I had no knee/ calf pain afterwards which is amazing. I ran today in them for 4.5 miles and actually INCREASED MY SPEED the longer the run! I'm usually dragging by the end but my legs felt great and I kept pushing. I recommend these shoes to anyone out there with similar problems as me- they are a lifesaver for long distance running with my foot type. And I use them without any pricey foot inserts, only the ones they come with.Just to note that many people commented on there being a sizing issue. I'm a true size 8 and these fit me perfectly.I bought these shoes after doing a lot of research. I have been running in brand new Brooks levitate ($150 shoes.. eeek) for maybe two months and have developed runners knee (unsure if related to my new Brooks at the time or not) Nevertheless, I have become extremely frusterated after spending so much money on such a highly rated shoe and wanted to try another shoe to see how that impacted my knee pain. The zero drop and wide toe box of this shoe appealed to me. I have heard zero drop allows runners to run more naturally and thought hey, that could be good. Initial thoughts upon trying on in the house- cute bright colors, heel and mid section feel good, toe box feels super roomy. I actually felt like initially the toe box felt too roomy. But then I took them for a run. (Just 3 miles as a test drive) the wide toe box was suddenly my best friend. I've never had a shoe that was so comfortable in the forefoot while running. My knee felt the same as before- so no miraculous cure- however they certainly did not make the knees feel any worse. No foot pain. No other complaints on my first run. I will be keeping the shoe. If you are unsure of size, get the half size up. The shoe is slightly narrow midfoot and you will be happy with the extra toe room. I am a 6.5 or 7 depending on brand and was happy with my 7s.Wonderful. Can' tell you how long it's been since I found sneakers that I wanted to put on. The wide toe box and excellent fore- and mid-foot cushioning make these super comfortable. I first bought a pair from REI, size 9, and fell is love. But I found when I did Step class that they felt a little sloppy (too big). So I ordered this pair in an 8.5 from Amazon (With free returns, so I could try them). They are perfect for Step, size 8.5, but my toe hits the front a little during other activities, so I just decided to have two pairs (and two cute colors). I love to wear them the way I love to wear my Birkenstocks in the summer. Though these sneakers are trendier, I get compliments from young people on them all the time :) Ever since they stopped making Nike Shox I have struggled to find a workout shoe that really fit and felt good. With these I have zero pain or problems and can just work out without being aware of my feet and joints. I was a little worried because I used to get plantar fasciitis, and these are very flat shoes. But I have no problem and in fact I think these encourage me to use a better gait with walking/running. I usually wear a size 8.5 in Nikes etc, so these are about as expected, with notes above. I like my 9s for casual wear and walking.I really love the shoe, BUT it is literally fits 1.5 sizes above my normal shoe size. I have the Torin 1.0 and to put the shoes side by side shows just how much smaller the new version is...I normally wear a ladies size 5. Bought these in a 6 which is what I wear in most athletic shoes, my big toe almost hits the end. The Torin 1.0 I have are in a size 6 and they are actually a little big. I had to return the size 6 and am waiting for the 6.5 to arrive, I hope it will fit better. On a positive note, I have super high arches and the arch support was phenomenal. The shoe was super cushioned and aside from my toe hitting the top of the shoe and it being a little short, the shoe was great...Altra recommends that you have some space between your toe and the end of the shoe and this is well given advice. My old ones have about a little more than a thumbnail between my toe and the end of the shoe and although the old ones are a little big, it really helps your foot spread out naturally! Some background: My foot is not wide. Although, it may be slightly on the wider side of medium. I wear 9 or, sometimes, a 9.5. These shoes are perfect. I ordered a 9.5 and they fit perfectly. They are normal (more narrow) through the heel and arch and get wider at the ball of the foot. I finally found a tennis shoe that doesn't cause my feet to cramp up. The ball of my foot splays out properly. I have worn ridiculous high heels and pointy toed pumps most of my life and have paid a price for it. I have something called metatarsalgia which causes the bones in the ball of my foot to pinch up, generate a burning sensation, and cramp. I have not experienced any of that in these shoes. The zero drop doesn't put any unnecessary weight on the ball of my foot, and there is plenty of arch support. I can't say enough good things about these shoes--so glad I found them. Will definitely get a pair for hiking as well.even though the toe box is supposed to be wide, still too narrow for my foot, had to take Insole out for them to fit nicely, if I’d gone up a size they would be too long. The zero drop means Running in them makes you lean forward and run in your forefoot, I shall use them as casual walk shoes With a thin sock rather than runnersNice wide fit (because they're foot shaped) but the knitted upper wore out long before the solesThey are footshape, or at least my footshape. Don't squash my toes or rub on Achilles tendon. My 3rd pair of Already. I wear size 5 normally but get 51/2 in these.Ugly and not very comfortable. Gave me pins and needles when wearing them and I felt a bit self conscious in them with their big rounded toes.I really really like Altra shoes. I do road and trail and have enjoyed the comfort these shoes provide me. I will probably never use another shoe. I have 2 Altra trail shoes now and these for road. I’m beyond impressed with my performance after my first run in them and 21km tells you a lot about how your feet handle a shoe.
